Save Heybridge's Green Field Sites! Protect Our Environment and Wildlife!
The Issue
Heybridge is a beautiful town nestled in the heart of Essex, known for its picturesque landscapes and abundant wildlife. However, our beloved green field sites are under threat as Maldon District Council considers a planning application to build 281 houses on the field next to Lofts Farm Gravel Pits and near Broad Street Green.
If this planning application goes ahead there will be increased pressure on our local schools, dentists and doctors all of which are struggling to cope with demand as it is. Heybridge will also be further gridlocked with the additional traffic the new development will bring adding more pollution to our air.
As a resident of Heybridge, living next door to this field, this issue hits close to home. I have witnessed firsthand the destruction caused by excessive urbanization and the devastating impact it has on our environment and wildlife. This petition aims to raise awareness about the importance of preserving our green spaces and urging Maldon District Council to reject this proposed development.
The Council's own report reveals that they are already surpassing government targets for new housing construction over the next five years without this additional development. It also goes against their Climate Action Strategy which includes as one of its five pledges "Show nature we care".
Our green field land plays a crucial role in maintaining biodiversity, providing habitats for various protected species, improving air quality, and mitigating climate change effects. Destroying these natural areas will disrupt delicate ecosystems, endanger local wildlife populations, and contribute to further environmental degradation.
It is essential that we protect our environment for future generations. By signing this petition, you join me in calling upon Maldon District Council to prioritise sustainable development practices that respect our local ecosystem while meeting housing needs within existing urban areas.
Let us remind decision-makers that preserving Heybridge's green field sites is not just about protecting nature; it is about safeguarding our quality of life as well. We deserve access to open spaces where we can connect with nature, exercise freely, and enjoy moments of tranquility away from urban chaos.
Together, let us send a strong message: Stop 281 more houses being built on Heybridge's green fields. Protect our environment, wildlife, and the unique character of our town. Sign this petition today and make your voice heard!
UPDATE January 2025: Maldon District Council officers rejected this application and subsequently Persimmon Homes lodged an appeal to the Secretary of State. The appeal will be heard at Maldon District Council Offices, Essex on 18th February 2025 at 10am. Please join us at the appeal hearing if you can to demonstrate the depth of feeling against this planning application, or if you are unable to attend please share this petition to ensure we get as many people sign it as we can.
