Veteran Oak tree 'Henry' at Rivenhall in Essex is still at risk.
The National Grid Norwich to Tilbury pylons route passes very close to the tree, which is believed to be at least 300 years old. Although National Grid has made adjustments to the route, in response to requests from us as residents, and that should result in Henry surviving construction works, landowners in the area are asking for further changes to the route.
The Examination into the National Grid planning application is taking place and ends later this summer. We spoke at the Examination this week and asked for Henry and the nearby line of old trees to be retained. Ideally the cable route could go offshore, as several other new National Grid cable routes are doing, but as things stand, the onshore pylon plan it what is on the table, posing a massive threat to a swathe of countryside along its more than 100 mile route through East Anglia. The pylons, which could be up to 180 ft tall, and the cables are only part of the story - haul roads and construction compounds and other works will be built along the entire route.
The petition will be submitted to the Examination Inspectors before the close of the Examination in the coming weeks - please help us get more names in support - it would be good to get to at least 3,000.
