Good news - Henry likely to be saved, but other old trees nearby still at risk

National Grid has now agreed that Henry, the 300 year-old Oak tree in Rivenhall, Essex, is proposed not to be harmed by their pylons plan - and they agree it is being recorded in their plans as a veteran tree. 

Thank you to everyone who signed our petition - it has helped to get National Grid to think again. They have moved one of the proposed pylons in their plans just enough so that the clearance swathe misses Henry.

However, other old trees and hedges nearby are still at risk and we are asking National Grid to do all they can to avoid these too. This though is in the knowledge that this is just one area affected - thousands of trees and numerous hedges along the route from Norwich to Tilbury will be removed.

On the plan shown, trees and hedges that will remain are marked green.

Henry the 300 year-old Oak tree is marked with the green star at top centre.

If trees or hedges are marked blue it means National Grid intends to "manage" them.

If they are marked yellow they could be affected.

If marked red they will be cut down by National Grid.

The map illustrates how it is not just where the pylons themselves will go that will be cleared, its a wide swathe through over 100 miles of countryside to make way for the haul roads, compounds and construction activity.
