Save Hendersonville Streets of Indian Lake Barnes and Noble

The Issue

UPDATE! 5/30/2025
Hi friends, neighbors, and fellow book lovers! I started this petition over a year ago and was blown away by the support. I have been a reader my whole life and I was so excited to see how many book lovers we have in this community.

Unfortunately, we weren't able to save our beloved Barnes and Noble. BUT we don't stay down. Instead we start mobilizing. Over the past year - Ciera, Emily, and myself have been organizing and starting our own bookstore to support the book community in Sumner County! Prose and Pine Books (proseandpinebooks.com). We're starting with a pop up/mobile bookstore with plans to expand to a brick and mortar.

We are so excited and have gotten such wonderful support from the community at our events. We work really hard to curate a selection of good (and important!) books, and also work hard to stock books by local authors. We even have a few signed copies in our store!

We would love if ya'll would continue to support us. We truly believe in the power of literature to change lives and believe that Sumner County deserves to have an independent bookstore that carries everything from romance to fantasy to classic literature.

If you're interested in supporting us, here are some ways to do it:

Come to our pop up events and buy books! We're regularly at the Gallatin and Hendersonville Farmer's Markets. We'll be at the Gallatin Farmer's Market June 7th and the Hendersonville Farmer's Market June 14th, and we're hoping to add dates at more event venues soon!

You can find out pop up schedule by following us on instagram or subscribing to our newsletter.

We also started a collaboration with the Palace Theater in Gallatin Tennessee to start a movie/book club. Folks can read the books, watch the movie on the big screen, and then stay after for a short (optional) book club. Our next one is June 27th when we'll be showing the Hunger Games. The Palace is one of our favorite places in Gallatin and a historic place we want to support! Coming to events like this is a huge step toward getting our brick and mortar and continuing to offer book clubs that you can join! You can buy your tickets at this link:

Thank you all again for your support. We look forward to seeing you and talking books soon!

Residents of Hendersonville TN recently found out that the landlord at Streets of Indian Lake decided to pull the lease from the beloved Barnes and Noble. This bookstore is a staple of the community and has been there for 16 years.

When I went there for their closing yesterday, it was packed. I overheard a little girl point to a book on the shelf and tell her mom, "I won't be able to buy that book here when I'm older now." I have attended midnight release parties with my family here, go here regularly on a date night, and spend as much time as I can at this bookstore. It's the only brick and mortar bookstore in Hendersonville.

A little birdie told me that the landlord did a deal with a gym owner to place a niche (UFC) gym in that space. I am furious that money and greed are being prioritized over the NEEDS OF A COMMUNITY! Children won't be able to run over the splashpad in the summer and settle into the grass with their brand new book. Adults and families won't be able head to Indian Lake for a movie and stroll to the bookstore to buy the latest best seller anymore.

This petition is to let the landlord and new business owner know that we are ashamed that they have prioritized money and greed over the needs of a community!

It's also to let the new business owner know that we will not support a niche gym that has taken away a BELOVED Hendersonville staple.

We want our Streets of Indian Lake Barnes and Noble back. A place that encouraged learning and community. We don't need a niche gym that caters to a few rich people!
