Save Healthy West Cork Wildlife from being Euthanised

Save Healthy West Cork Wildlife from being Euthanised
The Issue
We the volunteers of Allihies Wildlife Rehabilitation / Beara Wildlife Sanctuary strongly oppose the decision to euthanise birds currently in care at the Alex Scade Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre, particularly those with injuries such as missing or broken wings who are otherwise in stable condition.
These birds have been assessed by a qualified veterinarian who determined that they are in good health, not in distress, and fit to continue living under proper care. Despite this professional opinion, authorities are proposing to remove and euthanise them — a decision we view as unnecessary, inhumane, and not based on the best available evidence.
We do not agree that euthanasia is justified when:
The birds are not in pain or distress.
A qualified vet confirms they are fit for life in a sanctuary.
They are already living in a secure, licensed rehabilitation facility.
There are available alternatives that respect life and the effort of dedicated carers.
We respectfully call on the ISPCA and National Parks Service to:
Immediately halt all euthanasia plans for birds currently deemed viable by veterinary professionals.
Recognize the role of Alex Scade Wildlife Rehab Centre and similar sanctuaries in providing long-term care.
Collaborate with vets, carers, and wildlife advocates to establish humane and science-based protocols for injured birds.
Uphold compassion, ethics, and professional judgment in all wildlife welfare decisions.
Ireland must set a standard of kindness and respect toward animals — including those who cannot return to the wild but still have a chance at a safe and meaningful life.
If you can help us financially we would be forever grateful as we may need to engage a legal team to fight the NPWS
