When big productions come to Hawaii our local community benefits greatly! Productions spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on locally sourced supplies and materials needed for filming. When production is over these large companies donate most of the supplies, materials, and even cash donations to the local community. On average they donate $15,000 to $80,000 per production! As noted in the video by Professor Robert Hochstein of Leeward College's television production program who received a $58,000 contribution to help students get quality equipment they desperately needed.

These Women and local members of the community would not have been able to further their business and career if it were not for the generosity of these large production companies. Most go unnoticed as they do not publicize their charitable donations. However, as spoken by Senator Kurt Fevella of Ewa Beach District 15: "They are a blessing! They fix everything and leave things better than they were, to begin with!"

The tax credit cap threatens this fragile industry. "The Film Tax Credit Cap" is a limited dollar amount in which the state allows the film Industry to receive credit back for money spent on production in Hawaii. The CAP amount is currently too low and many large productions are going elsewhere to film. This is hurting thousands of local jobs and businesses. Lawmakers may think they are helping the economy by having these large productions companies pay more in taxes, however, the fact of the matter is they just go elsewhere to film. This leaves thousands of workers without jobs. Hawaii's economy misses out on hundreds of millions of dollars when they leave. We are losing many films to Australia due to the fact they have absolutely NO CAP same goes for many of our neighboring islands. We need this work to stay here for the good of the local residents and the local economy.
