We need your help to save Harmon Park. It is an almost 6-acre plot of land (located at 2450 and 2500 Angell Rd in the NE corner of Sunfish Lake.)

This land was deeded to the city in 1972 by Reuel and Margaret Harmon. Reuel Harmon was a WWII vet, former president of Webb Publishing, a philanthropist, as well as Sunfish Lake’s first mayor. He donated this land to the city with the following deed restriction:

“The land hereby conveyed is hereby restricted to use for park and recreational purposes only, and by acceptance of this deed, the grantee herein covenants and agrees for itself and its successors and assigns to use said land only for the aforesaid purposes.”

However, the future of Harmon Park is now under threat. A resident has approached the city wishing to purchase the land to develop for private construction. The city is claiming that Minn. Stat. §500.20 subd. 2a sunsets the deed restriction after 30 years. 

We call upon the city leadership to honor the original intent of Reuel and Margaret Harmon by preserving this park in perpetuity. We urge the decision-makers to explore legal avenues or alternative solutions that protect our park for generations to come.
