Save Grove Park Elementary from being DEMOLISHED for Rehab Center
The Issue
Grove Park Elementary is being sold to CommuniCare to be DEMOLISHED and make way for a 150-bed rehab center with 100-parking spaces in the middle of a 100% residential Black and Latino neighborhood. This middle class community is anchored by the school.
The neighborhood association, Grove Park Improvement Association, courted four Black-led nonprofits to take hold of the school and reopen it as a SCHOOL and rec center. The city ignored our pleas and our endorsement for a school and community rec center by BEAM Prep (beamprep.com) and Concord Baptist of Baltimore CDC (concordbaptistofbaltimore.com). They have also ignored our pleas to stop the sale to CommuniCare.
The City government has ignored us in favor of Howard Friedman of AIPAC and Steve and Isaac Rosedale of CommuniCare who have paid off the city officials to the tune of $178,000. This includes Mayor Brandon Scott and Councilman Yitzy Schleifer. We NEED YOU to help us help ourselves by saving the school and property values.
You can help by emailing boe.clerk@Baltimorecity.gov and eric.costello@baltimorecity.gov with the hashtag #SaveGrovePark and why Black homes are important.
*The contract of sale has to get approved by the Board of Estimates. You can share your opposition at: boe.clerk@baltimorecity.gov
**The property disposition Ordinance 22-0270 has to get approved by City Council (Eric Costello, Chair of Ways and Means Committee: eric.costello@baltimorecity.gov).
