Save Government Gordon College, Rawalpindi Pakistan

The Issue

Gordon College was established in 1893 and, since then, it has been serving the people of Potohar. Even today, this college is ranked amongst the best public sector colleges of Pakistan where students can study in BS by paying a nominal fee of Rs. 15,400/- per semester and Rs. 3800 per year for Intermediate.

On the contrary, efforts are being made by the authorities to deprive the people of Potohar of the opportunity to materialize their dreams by availing the opportunity to study at Gordon College without fearing incurring huge educational expenses.

Changing the status of Gordon College from a public sector college to a campus of Forman Christian College University implies the refusal of the poor to dream of a better future for their children.

FC College University, whose administration is trying to take over the control of this college, is charging Rs. 350,000 for BS per semester and Rs. 209,250 per year (excluding hostel charges and BISE, Lahore dues) for Intermediate.

Clearly, this is a plan to deprive the people of Potohar of the opportunity given by this institute to their children to fulfill their life aims.  People of the Potohar region reject this outright violation of their fundamental right to get an education at a public sector college that is affordable to them.

We appeal to the governments at federal and provincial levels to thwart all the efforts of the American Mission of Presbyterian Church to close the doors of education for students with poor backgrounds.
