The Issue

We the students, parents and all staff call on Kent County Council to continue funding for FAR Academy – a vital SEN provision for young people aged 16–25 with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

FAR Academy provides an inclusive, creative, and nurturing environment where young people with additional needs can thrive. Through a unique combination of education, experiences, creativity and wellbeing. The college helps its learners gain confidence, life skills, qualifications and independence.

These young people deserve an education that supports their needs, not one that’s taken away due to funding cuts. Removing or reducing KCC’s financial support will have a devastating impact on:
 • Students, who will lose access to tailored education that meets their EHCP requirements
 • Families, who rely on the college’s specialist support and stability for their children’s wellbeing.
 • Staff and community, who dedicate themselves to helping students succeed and contribute positively to society.

This funding cut risks denying vulnerable young people their right to education.
What they have provided for us students is not appropriate provision. The courses we want to do are not available for us at the other college. This will disrupt our education even further as the students are not wanting to change. The timing of this disruption falls over our half term which leaves us students worrying about what is going to happen after.

We urge KCC to:
 1. Reverse the decision to cut funding to FAR Academy.
 2. Recognise the proven impact this provision has on the lives of local young people with SEN.
 3. Work collaboratively with the college, parents, and professionals to sustain and strengthen this vital educational pathway.

Every young person deserves the chance to learn, grow, and succeed — not to be left behind because of budget cuts.

Please sign and share this petition to help protect the future of FAR Academy and the incredible young people it supports.
