Save Fairfield Lake State Park!

Save Fairfield Lake State Park!
The Issue
Fairfield Lake State Park is a 1,460-acre public State Park with a 2,400- acre lake teeming with life. Fairfield State Park is located in Fairfield County, Texas. Fairfield State Park has been open to the public for 50 years for fishing, camping, bird-watching, hiking, horseback riding, and a multitude of programs to bring a love for nature and the outdoors to the young and old of Fairfield and travelers from all across Texas.
Fairfield Lake State Park is in danger of being completely destroyed. It has been leased to Texas Parks & Wildlife for fifty years, and now the land has been sold to a real-estate developer Shawn Todd and his firm, Todd Interests. Mr. Todd has plans to demolish the park and create a million-dollar subdivision and luxury golf club.
Why is this important? Fairfield Lake State Park is an extremely important ecosystem to the wildlife of Texas. The Park boasts over 250 different species of birds, river otters, waterfowl, deer, armadillos, and various other species. Destruction of these animal's habitats is disgusting and a complete disregard for the protection of nature and wildlife.
Not only this, but it is also illegal. One of Fairfield's most beautiful avian species is none other than the Bald Eagle. The Bald Eagle calls Fairfield home for nesting, foraging, and living. Bald Eagles were finally stabilized as a species back in 2007, after years of being endangered. However, they are still protected by the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act. This act provides criminal penalties for those who "take, possess, sell, purchase, barter, export or import at any time or any manner any bald eagle".
"Take" is also defined as "disturb" in the act, which includes a decrease in productivity or nest abandonment by substantially interfering with normal breeding, foraging, feeding or sheltering behavior.
Mr. Todd's plans to destroy the State Park for his subdivision certainly meet the requirement for breaking this law.
Sign the petition for Mr. Todd to leave Fairfield Lake State Park in it's current state, open to the public, and run as is. The loss of habitat to the species that call this home is not only a despicable crime against nature, but against the very symbol of our freedom in the United States, The Bald Eagle.
