The Issue

Growing up in the farming community of Fairchilds, Texas, our homes and lands are more than just structures and properties; they are rich in family heritage and deep-rooted memories. This farming community, which is a tapestry of generational stories and lifelong bonds, faces a dire threat if the Fort Bend County Toll Road Authority (FBCTRA) and Commissioner's Court proceeds with its current plans. The construction of the new toll road along Psencik Road and/or parallel to Fairchilds Creek, holds the impending peril of displacement for numerous Fairchilds residents, tearing them away from their legacy and homes.

Fort Bend County's proposed routes, which seems to prioritize cost-efficiency over community welfare, stands to disturb lives and dramatically reduce property values. Those fortunate enough to retain their homes still face the grim reality of plummeting property values—a consequence of having a toll frontage road dangerously encroach upon our driveways. This not only mars the visual landscape of our cherished community but also poses a significant safety risk.

There is an alternative route available – a path that extends from Boothline to Minonite (FM 2977) North of Big Creek.

This option does not entail uprooting Fairchilds residents between Boothline and Minonite, and it is undeveloped land!

It provides a viable detour, ensuring that our family homes remain untouched, preserving both our safety and our community's heritage. Unfortunately, despite its merits, this option is dismissed due to presumed higher costs.

We implore the Fort Bend County Officials to exhibit the necessary foresight and compassion by selecting the route North of Big Creek. Investing a little more in construction costs is a small price in comparison to the overwhelming costs that our community would bear if we lost our homes and compromise our safety.

Every signature collected is a testament to the value we place on our community and its future. Stand with Fairchilds residents to advocate for a responsible and just decision by choosing a route that respects and protects our homes and generational farmers, who still farm this land!

We need your support to show the Fort Bend County Officials that our community's wellbeing is worth the investment. Please sign this petition.
