Save Ernest Tubb's Record Shop

The Issue

As a country music lover, time can change things but the core stays the same. Some people call it the "three chords and the truth". Country music is not just music, it is family with its home base in Nashville, Tennessee. No matter where you are, all it takes to get home is to turn on the radio and listen to the memories of home. While some might not feel that home is in Nashville, what is broadcast from there makes you think of your own home and family.

Country music is a big family and while time may go on and things can change, one does not. The honoring of our heroes and our previous patriarchs is always at the forefront. Every artist past and present has had country music affect them by a previous artist. While today's younger generation may be inspired by Reba or Kelsea Ballerini to Tim McGraw and Keith Urban they were equally inspired by those who came before like The Carters, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Loretta Lynn, or Hank Snow. We cannot let history disappear.

This is why we look to the places that started it all like The Grand Ole Opry, The Ryman Auditorium, WSM, and The Country Music Hall of Fame. Preservation is the forefront of everything country music.

Ernest Tubb's Record Shop was the first major all country record shop. Countless memories were made with the Midnight Jamboree that went on to be broadcast right after the Opry. It is in its core, preserving country music. If we let Ernest's dream of preserving country music die, aren't we doing a disservice to country music in its whole?

Some could say it's just a building. Some could say The Midnight Jamboree is just a show. Some could say Nashville is just a town, too. Our fore-founders of country music deserve to be honored for what they have done to become part of our loving legacy and country music family.

The Ryman went under the same principle. The Opry too, when the Nashville floods hit.

We do not let our light go quietly into the dark for the mainstream. We band together for our country music community and family, saving each others story to be told and tell the next generation of who came before. Then show them the place where it started.

I petition that Ryman Hospitality Properties Inc, The Country Music Hall of Fame, and/or the City of Nashville to bring Ernest Tubb's into their family permanently.

Ryman Hospitality Properties Inc. and Country Music Hall of Fame equally share that passion to preserve country music for past, present, and future listeners. Ernest Tubb provided the way to start the preservation of the stories we tell and share the stories we sing. The Midnight Jamboree is also a huge part of that history, WSM broadcasted it to the world stage as it did with the Opry. It would be a huge disservice to let those stories and memories die along with the in-opportunity to let present and future listeners and fans to experience country music history.

The City of Nashville, I implore you to consider making Ernest Tubb's Record Shop a historical place. It is key to this city as The Ryman and The Opry. It is key to preserving the legacy of not only Ernest Tubb but the history of country music, as Tootsies is to country music artists. It is a milestone in country music that doesn't deserve to die but to be honored.
