Dr. Mahmoud Jameel Matar, a renowned doctor based in Gaza, is currently facing an urgent situation that requires immediate attention and action from the international community. His invaluable service to the people of Gaza, especially during these challenging times, is commendable and indispensable. Despite the ongoing conflict and limited resources, he was providing critical medical care to those who need it most.

However, his ability to continue this vital work ceased to exist now that he has been severely injured. He is currently in the European Hospital in Gaza. His legs have been severely injured and in need of complicated surgeries or they will be amputated. This has been devastating news to him and his family. His wife Salsabeel, a journalist in Gaza, can’t fathom the idea of him losing his legs. The lack of access to necessary medical supplies and equipment due to blockades and restrictions on importation into Gaza (source: World Health Organization reports) has made his situation worse. He is crying out of pain all day and night, which has been devastating for his wife and son. His son goes into hysterical distress every time he hears his dad screaming.  The lack of medical supplies not only endangers his life but also compromises the health care system that many Gazans rely on.

We call upon all international organizations as well as governments worldwide to intervene immediately and evacuate Dr. Matar out of Gaza to receive the medical treatment necessary to save him and his legs and relieve his pain and suffering. We also call  upon the international community to demand the safe passage for medical supplies into Gaza so that doctors in Gaza can treat their patients and save their lives.
