Save DM School from merger with Kendriya Vidyalaya
The Issue
To the Concerned Authorities,
The DM School community—comprising students, parents, teachers, alumni, and well-wishers—vehemently opposes the proposed merger with Kendriya Vidyalaya. Our institution holds a distinct identity enriched by unique traditions, educational approaches, and a vibrant community spirit, which stand to be irrevocably altered by such a merger.
Established in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, DM School has nurtured generations of students, providing them with not just academic knowledge, but a holistic, value-based education. The school's longstanding reputation for excellence is underpinned by its committed faculty, diverse student body, and robust curriculum. We fear that merging with Kendriya Vidyalaya, a national and centrally governed school network, might homogenize our specialized educational offerings, diluting the personalized and local cultural aspects that DM School is known for.
Recent research highlights how mergers can lead to significant disruptions in school culture, negatively impacting student performance and community cohesion. A 2022 study in the Journal of Educational Administration reports that school mergers can lead to a 15% decrease in student satisfaction due to increased class sizes and shifts in institutional focus.
Moreover, the merger threatens to displace faculty who have contributed years of dedicated service, potentially leading to job casualties. This upheaval would disrupt the teacher-student dynamic that is essential to our students' academic and personal success.
We believe that the ethos and environment of DM School, developed over decades, worth preserving. Instead of a merger, we urge the authorities to consider alternative strategies that may enhance resource sharing and collaboration without erasing our unique character. Possible solutions include partnerships that allow for resource and idea exchange, while maintaining DM School's infrastructure and academic programs intact.
We call upon all stakeholders, including educational authorities, local government, and members of the Parliament representing our region, to reevaluate this proposal. We seek their support in maintaining DM School's independence and ensuring that future decisions reflect our community's needs and aspirations.
By signing this petition, you can help us protect the legacy of DM School for future generations. Your support is vital in preserving the essence of what makes our school a beacon of excellence and cultural preservation. Please join us in saying no to the merger and yes to DM School's continued autonomy.
