Hello, Davis Lane Community!

We have received an update from the City of Arvada, announcing that there will be a second round of community engagement to discuss our interests in the Davis Lane Courts. This is likely to take place in mid-September. The city also has our list of concerns and will reference them throughout the process. It’s encouraging to see them listening and starting to understand the significant negative impact removing the courts has on home values—estimated at 2% per home and $17 million in total for the neighborhood.

When I visited the park to take a photo for this post, I saw two groups in just 15 minutes who were disappointed that the courts are gone. We really want them back!

If you know anyone who hasn’t signed the petition, please encourage them to do so here: https://www.change.org/Save_Davis_Lane_Park

Thank you!

Alan

P.S. Below is a list of our community interests and the note from the city. Let me know if anything is missing.

Davis Lane Community Interests, unprioritized

Restore full court amenities
Ensure easy accessibility from the Ralston Creek Trail
Maintain proximity to residential areas
Preserve open space for activities like frisbee and soccer
Restore court access in a timely manner
Open to re-purposing court at Campbell in Oak Park for pickleball now, with full           courts in Davis Lane later
Or temporary pickleball courts in Davis Lane Park
Accessibility without crossing a major street
Minimize ecological impact by encouraging walking and biking access
Parking at Davis Lane Park is not a concern due to sufficient street parking and primary access via Ralston Creek Trail
Pickleball and tennis courts
Courts should have shade
Do not remove more trees from Davis Lane, Danny Kendrick East, or Oak Parks
Mitigate potential noise issues by placing courts near residents accustomed to them
Near a playground for family-friendly environment
Have shaded picnic tables nearby

Full note from the City of Arvada  Communications Manager, Infrastructure

“Hi Alan,

Thank you for your patience on this. The project team is working to plan a second round of community engagement to address much of what you listed. The plan is to share the first round of feedback and a more in depth analysis of each type of improvement option. The goal will be to solicit additional feedback on the options and develop prioritization very similar to what you mentioned above. We will cross check the items on your list as we are planning.

We are looking forward to engaging you as well as the other neighbors in this process. We'll have a date and location soon but anticipate some time in mid-September.

Thank you,”
