Hello, Davis Lane Community!
It’s the start of Davis Lane Sewer Project Construction on June 7, 2024. The fence has been removed from around the courts, an excavator is currently by the northwest corner, and the first spruce tree has been removed, as shown in the photograph. People are now being detoured around the park, though families can still access the playground from the south.
One of our community members has spoken with Councilmember John Marriott, and another with Randy Moorman, and both confirm that the City is now more open to replacing courts in the park. Marriott also mentioned that the City needs to be better at listening; that’s a good sign for us!
The Infrastructure Communications Manager says it will be a couple of months before City staff analyzes their survey results, and she did agree to include our petitions, paper on property value impact, and other documents for consideration along with the City survey. We will hear about that analysis when it gets started.
Options for park improvements will be considered this Fall and Winter. A final decision will be made, and work begun in 2025.
We have a strong case for restoring courts to the park:
1) 2% negative impact on home property values by court elimination (est. -$17 million total for the 1200 homes within half a mile)
2) 11 public comments at City Council in support of courts on May 6, 2024
3) 82 community in-person paper petition responses
4) 450 online petition responses (some being friends and family out of Arvada)
