The issue
For the past 15 years, Dance Power has been more than just a dance studio to me. It's where I've grown, both as a dancer and an individual. It's where I've built lifelong friendships, developed invaluable teacher-student relationships, had countless laughs, and acquired skills I once thought impossible. This place is my second home, and for many in the Doreen VIC community, it's the heart of where our passion and skills have flourished.
Recently, an unexpected decision to replace Dance Power with an RSL (Returned and Services League) at the Brookwood Community Centre has caused tremendous distress. While the notion of having an RSL is commendable, its location displaces over 20 years of memories and the talents of our thriving generation. This decision wasn't communicated properly to Dance Power's owners, leaving them in despair.
Dance Power isn't just a business; it represents the dreams, dedication, and achievements of countless families in Doreen. Changing its location affects not just its students but the entire community that relies on the studio as a cultural and social hub.
Dance Power is a predominantly female community club run voluntarily by a Mum and Grandma and not backed by big footy/cricket/soccer sponsors and associations. We are more than just dance – it provides these young kids with a place to stay active, form friendships, gain confidence, assist in mental health, eating disorders and anxiety recovery issues, broken homes in a safe environment
We need to rally together as a community to voice our support for keeping Dance Power at the Brookwood Community Centre. Dance Power has been a fundamental part of our community's identity and offers benefits that go beyond just dance lessons - it builds confidence, fosters creativity, and promotes a healthy lifestyle.
Join us in urging the local authorities to reconsider the location of the RSL. Let's preserve the legacy and continue the nurturing environment that Dance Power provides in Doreen.
