Save Crowlin house
The Issue
SAVE Crowlin House (mental health rehabilitation unit for adults)
Crowlin House is an 18-bed unit for people who are suffering with a mental health illness, it supports people coming out of hospital, offering a supported living environment, and person-centred support.
With the demands and challenges of everyday life, anyone at any time can or may suffer from mental health issues.
The ethos of Crowlin house is to support people for a short time, by focussing on their individual needs and offering person centred support, to enable people to feel more able and equipped to return to their everyday lives. Crowlin house is the only placement that provides that service in Southernhealth which makes us a unique and valuable service.
If this unit is shut down, people needing the extra support will have to come direct from hospital and return directly back into the community. For people that do not have a home to return to, this would mean being offered short term accommodation in local hotels, and then they would be responsible to find themselves a more permanent home to live. In Crowlin House, we support people with the moving on process, ensuring they find the accommodation that is right for everyone.
People that have been supported in Crowlin House stated that this service has been a life saver to them, and due to the support, they received, has prevented them having to return to hospital, and enabling them to go on to live a more fulfilled life.
In the mental health sector, there are long waiting lists for people to be supported in the community, and if units like Crowlin House continue to be shut down, then people coming out of hospital who need extra support, will be more likely to become unwell again which could result in a return to a hospital setting.
Please sign our petition to help save Crowlin House from closure.
