Keep the Historic Seaside Village Charm in Crescent Beach!

We, the residents and supporters of Crescent Beach, are committed to preserving the historic charm, beachside character, and pedestrian-friendly nature that make our community a safe and beautiful place to live and visit. However, the City of Surrey’s plans and construction projects aim to urbanize the area, increasing car access beyond what the beach can accommodate. These changes threaten the unique identity and livability of our neighborhood.

We urgently call on the City of Surrey to halt any construction projects that violate the Crescent Beach Land Use Plan and move forward without proper community consultation. The voices of residents must be heard to ensure responsible and sustainable development that respects the integrity of our community.

Our Concerns

• The City is disregarding existing land use policies and agreements, making drastic changes that will increase car access and diminish the community’s pedestrian-friendly nature.
• Instead of pursuing low-impact alternatives, such as utilizing existing spaces (e.g., land beside the church) or implementing a shuttle service to reduce vehicle traffic, the City is pushing forward with disruptive construction.
• The addition of concrete sidewalks, paved roads, and unnecessary urbanization threatens to erase the historic charm and natural beauty that makes Crescent Beach so special.
• The City is moving forward with installing large fencing along the railroad tracks to deter trespassing, despite the community believing it was meant to stop the train whistle. We were misled, and now this fence will eliminate valuable parking spots and detract from the natural beauty of our community.
• The lack of transparency and failure to consult and inform residents disregards the needs and concerns of our community.

Our Demand

We demand that the City of Surrey:

• Halt all construction projects affecting Crescent Beach until transparent and meaningful public consultation is conducted. 
• Respect and uphold the Crescent Beach Land Use Plan to preserve the semi-rural character and natural beauty of our neighborhood.
• Provide visitor parking in ways and in locations that do not disrupt the single family residential life style in the core of the community and protect the natural character of the area.
• Explore public parking areas situated at the edges of the community which are connected to the pedestrian/bicycle network, to provide direct non-vehicular access opportunities to the beach.
