Save courtesy bussing for Holmdel District students

Save courtesy bussing for Holmdel District students
The Issue
As a parent in the Holmdel community, I understand firsthand the struggle of balancing work and family responsibilities. With most families having two working parents, managing school transportation amid our busy schedules is an additional challenge. This is why the courtesy bussing provided by the Township Committee and Board of Education is absolutely essential for our 2,900 students and their families. Currently, there is a threat of this vital service being cut from the budget on March 25th. Eliminating courtesy bussing will not only inconvenience countless families but could also force parents to make drastic adjustments, such as changing work hours or incurring additional childcare costs. This would disproportionately affect working class and lower-income families, further widening the socio-economic divide within our community. According to studies, reliable and safe transportation plays a critical role in ensuring consistent student attendance and punctuality, both of which are vital for academic success. The abrupt removal of courtesy bussing could potentially lead to increased absenteeism, tardiness, and overall stress for both students and parents. We understand the complexities of budgeting; however, it is crucial to include community input in these decisions, especially when they so directly impact the daily lives and future of our children. There are potential solutions we believe should be explored, such as seeking additional funding through state education grants or partnering with local businesses for sponsorships to help offset the costs. We urge the Holmdel School Board and Township Committee to consider the long-lasting implications of their decision and prioritize the retention of courtesy bussing. Keeping this service is not just about transportation; it's about supporting the livelihood and well-being of our families and ensuring that our children have access to their right to education without additional barriers. Please join us in urging the Holmdel School District to keep courtesy bussing in our community's budget. The Township Committee and Board of Education need to work together to support courtesy bussing. Agreeing on a shared services agreement is imperative before the March 24th TC and March 25th BOE meeting. Sign this petition to show your support and help maintain this essential service for our children. Together, we can make a difference.
