Petition updateSAVE COTTONFIELDS COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION IN LAVEEN, ARIZONAGOLF COURSE FLOODING AFTER RAINFALL

Wednesday, October 15, 2025. As many Arizona residents are aware. Phoenix, Arizona endured record breaking rainfall resulting in portions of the newly constructed golf course flooding. See picture posted.

The problem is days later the rain water still remains several feet high in many areas throughout the golf course not absorbing into the ground because the top layer of the ground is like concrete. Appears to be a muddy, dirty mess across the golf course. It’s looking like golfers will need to wear knee high mud boots and be wearing a life jacket when playing this course during the Fall and Winter seasons!

The previous golf course design had several grass fairways that would absorb a lot of rainfall. The new golf course design doesn’t have grass fairways. How is this new design going to be built to absorb heavy rainfall and drain excess water off the golf course?

What does this mean for golf course operations when the course is open? Does this mean the golf course will be closed until the water absorbs into the ground? Right now, this flooding is happening all over the golf course.

What does this mean for attracting mosquitoes and other water related issues? I’m sure the landscape design company has a solution to fix the standing water issues around the golf course.

In the meantime, Cottonfields Community residents must contend with a heightened risk of mosquito problems. Remind you, we specifically purchased golf course lot properties not muddy, rain water properties attracting mosquitoes.

I’ve lived in Cottonfields almost 15 years now. I’ve seen a lot of rainfall. But I have never seen the golf course flooded in so many places like it is now. It’s common knowledge the majority of the golf course land is flat. Will this be a reoccurring issue every time there is rainfall?

One thing is for sure we can’t have large amounts of standing rain water surrounding our houses. This becomes a potential Public health hazard and whomever is responsible for the golf course construction should immediately take action regarding this matter.

If you are experiencing any mosquito issues or have concerns about the environment contact Maricopa County Vector Control at 602-506-0700.

In closing, for several weeks there has been limited activity on or around the golf course. Laveen 140’s website has not been updated for several months. I heard from a reliable source the new golf course opening date is the 2nd quarter of 2026.

Would be nice to begin seeing more work done at the clubhouse. Would be great to see the cart barn being demolished and removed. The new community monuments and gates installed. All eyes are focused on this project and we are looking forward to seeing more progress.
