The proposed closure of the Morrisons Daily store in Clerkhill threatens the future of one of Peterhead’s most important community services – the local Post Office.

For many residents, particularly older people, those without access to a car, and those with mobility difficulties, the Post Office is far more than somewhere to send parcels. It provides access to banking services, bill payments, cash withdrawals, pensions, government services and everyday essentials.

The loss of the Clerkhill Post Office would place additional pressure on other Post Office branches at a time when concerns already exist about Post Office provision elsewhere in Peterhead and across our area.

Peterhead has supported Morrisons for many years. We are asking Morrisons to reconsider its decision and work with the Post Office, local representatives and the community to explore alternatives that would allow this vital service to remain available in Clerkhill.

We urge Morrisons to:

• Reconsider the proposed closure of the store.
• Work with the Post Office to protect local services.
• Explore alternative operating arrangements if closure cannot be avoided.
• Engage with the local community before any final decision is taken.

Our community deserves access to reliable local services.
