The Issue

Chesterfield Towne Center is more than just a mall to me; it's a community hub, a place where memories are made, and the only mall in the Chesterfield area. As someone who relies on this mall not just for shopping but for social and community connections, the news of it being sold for $80 million to JRE Partners and Anastasia AG is devastating. The new owners' plans to convert this beloved center into expensive apartments threaten to dismantle the fabric of our community and eliminate a vital local resource.

The closure of this mall would result in the loss of hundreds of jobs, affecting not just the employees but their families and the wider community that depends on their economic contributions. Chesterfield Towne Center provides employment to many local residents, offering them a means to support their families and contribute to the local economy. The ripple effects of job loss here could be disastrous for our community's economic health.

Moreover, malls are not just about shopping; they are about providing a communal space where people can gather, socialize, and access a variety of services under one roof. For young people, it's a safe place to meet friends, for families, it’s a convenient spot for outings, and for seniors, it’s a walkable and accessible location for daily activities. By turning the center into apartments, we are losing a critical part of the community's social infrastructure.

We acknowledge the need for affordable housing. However, the proposed project does not guarantee affordable options and may increase the cost of living in an area where many are already struggling to make ends meet. Alternative developments that preserve community spaces while providing affordable housing should be considered.

We urge the Chesterfield local government, JRE Partners, and Anastasia AG to reconsider this plan and explore alternative ways to utilize Chesterfield Towne Center that support community needs and preserve jobs.

Please sign this petition to keep Chesterfield Towne Center a vibrant part of our community.
