I live at Chester House, a vibrant student accommodation that has been home to countless students and young professionals since its establishment in 1960. It has been a nurturing environment, a place that many, including myself, are proud to call home. Recently, we received the heartbreaking news that Chester House is set to close down. This decision, made by the Methodist Church’s Connexional Council, has left us feeling devastated and unheard.

Chester House is more than just a place to live; it’s a community. We are well taken care of by the team on site that are there to help us 24/7. It is uniquely accessible, offering affordable housing to individuals with lower income, like many students pursuing their educational dreams. The lack of student accommodations in London makes Chester House even more unique. The impact of closing this facility would be profound. Not only will it displace current residents, but it will also remove an essential option for future students and young professionals who seek quality, affordable accommodation in a supportive environment. 

The decision to close Chester House disregards the needs and voices of its residents, many of whom rely on its affordable rates and community spirit. Consider the 60-year legacy of Chester House in fostering growth, friendship, and opportunities for a diverse group of people.

This is a plea to the decision-makers to reconsider and explore alternative solutions that preserve the accessibility and community spirit of Chester House.
