Save Charles A. Mooney School from closure and merger!

Save Charles A. Mooney School from closure and merger!
The Issue
PETITION TO SAVE CHARLES A. MOONEY SCHOOL
To: Dr. Warren Morgan, CEO; CMSD Board of Education; Mayor Justin Bibb & Support Staff
From: Concerned Parents, Students, Alumni, and Community Members
We, the undersigned, are deeply concerned about the proposed closure or reduction of services at Charles A. Mooney School. This historic and vital educational institution has served our community for generations, providing not only quality education but also a safe, nurturing environment for children to learn, grow, and thrive. The closure of Charles A. Mooney School would have devastating consequences for our students and families, including:
• Loss of accessible education within walking distance for dozens of neighborhood children.
• Disruption to student learning and emotional well-being caused by relocation and overcrowding in other schools. Many of our scholars thrive in the structure provided by Mooney.
• Negative impact on the local community, which will provide significant economic hardship, diminish the likelihood of affordable living and destroy neighborhood pride.
• Diminished historical and cultural legacy, as Charles A. Mooney has been a cornerstone of our neighborhood for over 6 decades.
• Potential loss of quality teachers, principals and staff due to merger with a smaller, less accommodating school.
We believe that every child deserves access to a quality education close to home. We respectfully urge the decision-makers to reconsider any plans to close, merge, or defund Charles A. Mooney School and instead invest in its continued success. Together, we can ensure that Charles A. Mooney remains a thriving part of our city’s educational future. We, the undersigned, stand united in support of saving Charles A. Mooney School.
