The Issue

We are students at NVCC Annandale who are concerned that the 3-D Ceramics and Sculpture classes will be ending on our campus and the studio they are taught in will close. These classes are important for our education at NVCC.

Getting rid of these classes will basically gut the Associate in Visual Arts degree program on this campus, because ceramics and sculpture represent half of the transferrable courses in that program.

Losing these courses as electives will be a real loss to our education in other majors.  Studying 3-D art broadens the mind and nourishes the spirit.

This studio has provided students with courses that are not available at GMU, GW, and other universities.

NVCC’s mission includes continuing education, and many of us want continuing education in Ceramics and Sculpture.

The decision on whether to close the studio is being made without consulting with stakeholders, such as the students taking these classes and the teaching faculty. We do not understand why the Administration hasn’t reached out to students and faculty to discuss this. Further, we do not understand the rationale for ending sculpture and ceramics classes at Annandale, when that is the NVCC campus with the largest number of Visual Arts majors.

Save ceramics and sculpture at Annandale NVCC!
