Save Central Park and Invest in Our Community!

As proud residents of Johnstown, We are deeply concerned about the plans of our City Council to destroy our beloved Central Park and waste a staggering 20 million dollars in the process. This petition aims to urge the City Council to reconsider their decision and instead utilize these funds to restore and enhance Central Park, while also addressing other areas in our city that are in desperate need of attention.

Growing up in this area, Central Park has always been a symbol of community pride, offering a peaceful oasis where families gather, children play, and residents connect with nature. It is not just an ordinary park; it holds historical significance for our city. Destroying it would be like erasing a part of our identity.

Rather than squandering such an enormous amount on unnecessary destruction, we propose that these funds be redirected towards revitalizing Central Park itself. With proper investment, we can restore its infrastructure, improve accessibility for all residents including those with disabilities, enhance security measures to ensure everyone's safety, and create new recreational opportunities for people of all ages.

Additionally, it is crucial that we address other neglected areas within Johnstown. Our residential neighborhoods deserve equal attention as downtown attractions. By allocating a significant portion of the 20 million dollars towards improving these communities—turning vacant abandoned lots like the Cypress Ave School lot into green space, tree, sidewalks or enhancing local amenities—we can create safer environments where families thrive.

To support this petition's claims about the importance of preserving Central Park as well as investing in residential areas across Johnstown:

1. According to studies conducted by renowned urban planners (source: Urban Planning Association), parks play a vital role in promoting physical health by encouraging outdoor activities such as walking or jogging. So lets bring this benefit to the people in the residential communities.
2. The preservation of historical landmarks fosters civic pride among residents (source: National Trust for Historic Preservation). What makes Johnstown unique if not our history?
3. Neglected residential areas often suffer from higher crime rates due to inadequate infrastructure (source: Journal of Urban Studies). Can anyone argue that Moxham has not been neglected by City Council and it is suffering from a higher crime rate because of it?

By signing this petition, you are joining us in urging our City Council to reconsider their plans and prioritize the preservation of Central Park. Let us utilize the 20 million dollars to restore and enhance this cherished space, while also investing in our residential areas to create a more vibrant and inclusive community.

Together, we can ensure that Johnstown becomes a place where history is preserved, resources are wisely allocated, and all residents can enjoy a high quality of life. Sign now to save Central Park and invest in our community!

Thank you for your support.
