My family has been entrenched in the rich soil of Burleson County, Texas for generations. Alongside countless other farmers and ranchers, we cultivate the land not just for our livelihood, but for a way of life deeply connected to the heart of rural America. The proposed routing of the I-14 and Loop 214 threatens that way of life for all of us here unnecessarily.  

The current plan for the Loop 214  cuts right through the heart of our agricultural community. It isn’t just a road; it will pave over our fields, split our pastures, and forever alter the landscape that we call home. This isn't just about losing land—it's about losing heritage, economic sustenance, and an entire rural culture.

Burleson County is not just a waypoint on a map. We contribute over $30 million annually to Texas’ agricultural economy. Our farms and ranches produce vital crops and livestock that feed this state and beyond. More than 90% of the county’s land is dedicated to agriculture; disrupting this would have significant downstream effects.

There are alternative routes available that can provide the necessary infrastructure for development without dismantling this community. The Texas Department of Transportation must reconsider the current proposal. Moving Loop 214 to less agriculturally intensive areas would achieve the project’s economic goals while preserving our farms and ranches. Municipal governments, stakeholders, and the public should engage in comprehensive dialogue to reassess the proposed path of this highway.

We urge the Texas Department of Transportation to act responsibly in its planning by re-routing the Loop 214 away from Burleson County.
