Save Bingley Pool

The Issue

This is not just a plea, but a clarion call to all who value Bingley Pool - a historic monument and a significant local landmark.

It’s been more than five years since Bingley Pool was last open for swimming. In that time, government funding for the pool’s regeneration has been rejected, then awarded, then rejected again; Bradford Council has proposed the sale of the land; and the Council has argued in its leisure strategy that Bingley does not need a pool, at a time when the district is underserved for overall swimming space.

Also in that time, our schools have been forced to pay for budget-busting trips to Keighley and Shipley for statutory swimming; the town’s health and wellbeing has deteriorated, with tens of thousands of swimming trips lost; and the economic benefits of a major town centre facility have been wasted by having it lie empty.

Following meetings with Bradford Council staff in March, the Friends of Bingley Pool were assured of a formal written response to questions raised, including:

Will the pool be sold?

Has Bradford Council considered any other options for financing the pool besides the Levelling Up Fund?

Does the Council believe that selling the pool would be more beneficial to Bingley than keeping it as a leisure or general community facility?

Does the Council still consider that Bingley is not in need of a pool, despite significant errors in the last modelling of water space in the district?

Almost three months on, and despite the success of this very petition, no answers have been received.

Show Bradford Council that Bingley Pool belongs to the residents of Bingley. Let's join forces to save our pool, our heritage, our legacy. Sign this petition. Uphold the legacy of Bingley Pool for our children, and children's children to enjoy and cherish!
