Concerns voiced to Council's Submission Review Panel
On Wednesday this week (19th March), we met at City Hall for the opportunity to speak in front of council's Submission Review Panel. There were a total of 31 submissions made to council's Have Your Say community engagement page, and 5 of those who requested the option to formally speak in front of the Submission Review Panel.
On completion of the meeting, there were 3 of 5 submissions heard due to 2 failing to attend the meeting. Geelong Mayor Stretch Kontelj announced that all submissions would be considered and that a report would be handed over by the Submission Review Panel to be tabled at a future council meeting that will be held on Tuesday 27th of May. A decision on the future of Balyang Par 3 Golf Course would likely be made at or soon after the May meeting.
Petition makes headlines in the Geelong Advertiser
This week also saw an editorial published on page 5 of the Geelong Advertiser on Tuesday 18th March, titled "Balyang Battle Tees OFF". The editorial written by Luke Griffiths, confirmed the interest of the Sharp family who own Curlews Golf Club, the Curlews Range and a number of winery and hospitality venues on the Bellarine Peninsula. The editorial also details the public's fierce opposition toward any driving range development at the Balyang Par 3 site.
So, what is next and how can you help?
