Petition makes headlines in the Geelong Advertiser

In the last two weeks, the Geelong Advertiser has published three editorials detailing two parties who have made submissions to the City of Greater Geelong to lease and redevelop the Balyang Par 3 site.

Golf battle brewing as Curlewis owners’ flag Balyang interest
The first editorial confirmed the interest of the Sharp family who own Curlews Golf Club, the Curlews Range and a number of winery and hospitality venues on the Bellarine Peninsula.

Local group’s big plans for Balyang site
The second and third editorials detail Infiniti Golf’s proposal to spend 15 million on redeveloping the site into a 3 storey driving range.

Our thoughts on the editorials and what is the reaction?
We know that the City of Greater Geelong council want to exit the management of Balyang Par 3 Golf Course to save money.  What we didn’t know was why the council proposed the idea to transform the Balyang Par 3 site and more specifically why they have been pushing the idea of a driving range redevelopment.

These editorials now confirm what we have long suspected.  The City of Greater Geelong are not working in the interests of the community they are paid to serve.  They are working for the interests of the those seeking to lease and redevelop the site for personal gain.

If the Sharp family or the Infiniti Golf conglomerate want to build another driving range, why not approach an already established on course facility like those at Barwon Valley GC, Queens Park GC or Geelong GC and pitch the idea to them.

What is next and how can you help?
We need to send a clear message to the City of Greater Geelong and those seeking to lease the Balyang Par 3 Golf Course, that we are saying “NO” to any driving range development!  The strongest way to do this is to comment on the recent newspaper editorials, as the media, council and those seeking to lease Balyang Par 3 golf course are reading the responses.

We encourage everyone to visit the following links to the Geelong Advertiser Facebook page and post a comment against the recent editorials.  The petition and all comments will be submitted to council ahead of the Submission Review Panel report in an effort to influence councils' final decision and save the Balyang Par 3 Golf Course.
