The Hanover Co. aims to build a new high-rise that will lead to the demolition of several LGBTQ+ bars on Austin's historic 4th Street (Coconut Club, Neon Grotto, Oilcan Harry's, etc). The Austin Historic Demolition Landmark Commission could potentially sign off on a demolition permit as soon as next month. Many cities make it a point to protect their gay districts, and it's super disappointing that our city officials in Austin are not doing the same. These bars are a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community and a part of our culture.
