The issue
The Australian Transgender Support Association of QLD (ATSAQ) was formed in 1990, to help, advise and assist the transgender community in Queensland. It is run by transgenders for transgenders and provides emotional/moral support for people with Gender identity Disorder (formally known as Gender Dysphoria) their families and friends.
Quote from Qnews: “The most significant risk confronting the state’s transgender service is that of an increasing caseload that has exceeded current resources,” Mather told QNews. “This poses a number of risks to patients as a result of under-servicing and long waiting lists, including transgender persons accessing hormone treatment without appropriate assessment by either self medicating with drugs obtained on the street or accessing inadequately trained GPs.
Mather also fears that the already high rate of transgender suicide may return to the unacceptable levels seen before access to the Gender Clinics was made available eighteen years ago"
To donate contact ATSAQ via the website for further details: http://www.atsaq.com/
We also educate and try to dispel misunderstanding and combat discrimination, which is still sometimes a common experience for transgender people in Australian society. We liaise with all forms of government to assist in better policy practices and medical professional's etc.
ATSAQ is a confidential, non-profit, un government funded organization, relying on donations and membership for financial support. We provide support and information on all aspects of gender reassignment, for the general community and people who are experiencing difficulty with their gender identity.

Now ATSAQ and the Brisbane Gender Clinic has to close it's doors, why? Not enough funding for the overwhelming demand this organisation recieves within the Transgender community and now have no choice but to close their doors,
We don't want to see this happen, if the Queensland Government and any third party organisation's can help support ATSAQ and the Brisbane Gender Clinic with extra funding to help keep the doors open and continue doing a great service to our beloved community it would be helpful to so many peoples lives, now and the future, this closure can only to be proven as problematic.
