Save Aravali Save life
The Issue
The Aravalli Range is the lungs of Northern India, but it is under immediate threat of disappearing.
A recent ruling suggests that only elevations above 100 meters be classified as "mountains," effectively opening up hills lower than 100 meters to legal mining and commercial exploitation. This distinction is ecologically devastating. Nature does not follow a height requirement, and the destruction of these "lower" hills will lead to an irreversible environmental collapse.
Why This Matters:
Ecological Integrity: The Aravallis are not just rocks; they are a continuous ecological corridor. Fragmenting them based on height will destroy the natural habitat of leopards, jackals, and hundreds of bird species.
The Green Wall: These hills serve as a barrier against the expansion of the Thar Desert toward Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR). Removing them will lead to increased dust storms and desertification.
Water Security: The Aravallis act as a massive groundwater recharge zone. Mining these hills will deplete the already critical water table, leading to a severe water crisis for future generations.
Air Quality: In a region already struggling with some of the worst air pollution in the world, we cannot afford to lose a single hectare of forest cover.
Our Demand:
We, the undersigned, urge the authorities to reconsider the "100-meter rule." We demand that the entire Aravalli Range, regardless of height, be protected as a singular, indivisible ecological zone. We must prioritize the health of our planet and the lives of our children over short-term industrial gain.
Don't let the Aravalis be leveled to the ground. Sign this petition to save our heritage and our future.
