There have been countless times that stray animals have been dumped to die from starvation and dehydration. The Philippines currently has around 13 million strays and these numbers continue to grow as pet owners are not spaying/neutering their pets and people continue to
buy and breed animals rather than adopting and fostering rescue animals or strays. The main reason for these strays is the lack of responsibility of pet owners when it comes to their animals and their care. Many of these animals are usually killed and treated inhumanely when they
reach the streets due to their overpopulation and the chance of spreading diseases such as rabies. Though there are policies and programs in place for these animals such as the Animal Welfare Act of 1998 (RA 8485) there are still significant challenges in terms of resources, awareness, and enforcement. This crisis is too big to be solved by only a few organizations
which is why all of us should do our part to spread awareness and take action on this issue to protect the lives of Filipinos and our animals.
