Baguio City, often referred to as the “City of Pines”, houses magnificent pine forests that form an integral part of both the city's ecosystem and its mesmerizing beauty. Manifestly, these forests play a critical role in maintaining the city's unique microclimate while serving as a significant carbon sink, helping in mitigating global climate change. Regretfully, these forests are under imminent threat due to rampant deforestation. 

About 33.4 million hectares of forest cover has been lost worldwide between 2000-2010 (Source: Global Forest Resources Assessment, FAO). This rampant deforestation poses a severe threat to the unique biodiversity of Baguio's Pine forests and the health of its inhabitants, thereby jeopardizing the very essence of Baguio.

We implore the local government, and relevant environmental bodies to enact protective policies that put an immediate halt to deforestation activities, and thereby ensure the long-term preservation of Baguio’s Pine forests.
