Save Airth Castle from Looting, Vandalism and total destruction

Save Airth Castle from Looting, Vandalism and total destruction
The Issue
Airth castle is of great significance to the village of Airth. When in operation, it provided local jobs, brought visitors to the area and boosted the image of Airth.
It is a Grade A Listed building, parts of which date back to the 13th or 14th century, for which the owners have a Duty Of Care. They have failed in this duty, which leaves them open to claims for negligence if someone is harmed.
The company who leased Airth Castle went into liquidation in March 2023, leaving the owners of the castle without rental income. While the owners hoped to find another person/company to lease the Castle, this has not happened and shows no signs of happening. Unfortunately, recent months have seen ever increasing incidents of looting, vandalism, fire raising and an increased risk of a much more catastrophic fire. The police have been inundated with calls regarding these incidents and are patrolling as frequently as possible, but this has only reduced the incidents and not eradicated them.
The owners have been asked to take action to protect Airth Castle but to date their response has been minimal to non-existent. As a minimum they should:
- put adequate security measures in place,
- use metal shutters to prevent easy access to all unoccupied buildings,
- regularly maintain the entrance and other grassy/landscaped areas (as any good neighbour would do)
- implement fire prevention strategies.
Heritage Scotland have been informed and they, and we, urge the local authorities to use all means possible to ensure the owners take immediate action.
Your support can make a difference in safeguarding this iconic landmark. Please sign this petition to help save Airth Castle before it is too late. By doing so you will be helping to preserve the history and heritage of Airth.
