The good news: Since this petition launched on 3/30/26, Glendale Acapulco’s business has surged 40–50% according to managers, even attracting folks from out of town. Filed appeals are buying time while the City Council explores options to prevent demolition. In the meantime, keep showing up—continued support gives the parent company another reason to keep the doors open.
The bad news: Following the 4/18/26 closure in Downey and the 4/19/26 closure in Costa Mesa, only two Acapulco locations now remain: Glendale and Long Beach. Let's keep them hopping, to make sure the parent company doesn't have a reason to close yet another location.
Thank you to the Glendale City Council for listening and responding so far. While they do not have a direct way to save Acapulco, there is still a critical step they can take. They can update the zoning, to discourage and delay projects like the proposed car wash. But that will require a 4/5 vote on the city council.
So for the upcoming June 2nd election, I endorse the following candidates for Glendale City Council: Dan Brotman, Elen Asatryan, and Alek Bartrosouf. Keep an eye out for your ballots, and make sure to vote. Without these critical voices on the City Council, we are at a much higher risk of unfavorable development projects replacing our beloved Acapulco.
