May 10, 2026 will be Acapulco's final day in business. Today the parent company emailed me the following statement: "It has always been the intention of the company to keep this location of Acapulco open. The company has consistently communicated with the landlord about its desire to remain in the space and continuing the legacy of Acapulco in this area. Acapulco would like to occupy the space as long as is possible."
If you've been meaning to speak up before the restaurant closes its doors for good, you still have six days. But we can absolutely still influence the future redevelopment at this site, while the parent company phases out old restaurant brands in favor of more modern Mexican restaurant brands. Since the Glendale City Council has already bought us many additional months while the three appeals are under review, and while potential rezoning is voted on, please email the parent company at info@xperiencerg.com and ask them to consider any of the following:
• Continue operations & rent payments at Acapulco Glendale beyond Mother's Day, especially as the proposed car wash faces delays, potential zoning changes, and potential defeat
• Begin planning a relocation within Glendale (for an Acapulco or Xperience brand Mexican restaurant)
• Explore a hybrid redevelopment at the current site that preserves an Acapulco or Xperience brand Mexican restaurant
We’ve also identified the property owners, who are separate from the restaurant and its parent company. So far, they have not been hearing directly from the community, but they can absolutely be influenced if they do, since they are not massive corporations. Please take a moment to reach out and ask them to explore ways to preserve, relocate, or redevelop the historic Acapulco in Glendale, which is now one of only two remaining Acapulco restaurants in the world, and is still a profitable business. Or at least incorporate a new Xperience brand Mexican restaurant into the redevelopment at this site. Again, this location still profits, and business has been surging an additional 40-50% recently. They can’t even do much else with this building while all the appeals are under review during the upcoming months.

There also seems to be a meaningful opportunity to reimagine the concept—whether by preserving Acapulco in an updated form or introducing a refreshed brand (for example, something along the lines of a modernized “Acapulco Grill”) that builds on its legacy while aligning with current market trends. There is overwhelmingly strong community support for keeping an Xperience Mexican restaurant in Glendale.
Final thoughts: I do think this effort will likely still defeat the car wash, and has succeeded in that sense. I just hadn’t heard until a few days ago on 4/30 that the parent company may not have been paying their rent for several months. That may have been the glitch that killed their chances.
Well... It's been an honor having been asked by the Glendale social media community to start this petition. Thank you Acapulco for serving Glendale for 57 amazing years. We sure will miss you.
