While we were hoping for the City to keep its promise to do more research after this week's meeting, including a third party opinion on the safety of the historic wall we are trying to save, we definitely were not prepared for the desperate last minute attempts to actually physically render the wall unstable or unsafe before any preservation options could be discussed! Today Friday 3:30pm City workers with the urgent order 'from the City Manager's Office' showed up to trim a tree (with a heat index of 109F today!) which would very likely render the wall unsafe without proper evaluation first. Wow. Thank God that the actual City workers do an amazing job at sensing when something is off, as they keep seeing the efforts to pander to a select few at the expense of the 'regular' citizens being repeated all over the island all the time, so they will gather more first before coming back first thing Monday. Huge shoutout to those guys who have witnessed the gentrification of their home and neighborhood and their voices taken away for way too long!
