So today we learned from the previous owner's great granddaughter that the wall that was illegally damaged without consequences, and that the Key West Building Department and Code have been trying to take down entirely, was actually built in 1912, using bricks brought in specifically from Cuba! It's got a really cool pattern of double row gray bricks to match the color of the house at the time, and all mortar was mixed and applied by hand . The wall that spans around an entire property in the Key West Historic District and has been built to close off an old alleyway running from Southard Street to our little Mickens Lane, before any streets in the area were paved.
Her great grandfather was also a rumrunner - it's Key West after all ;)
