Save A Deserving Teacher
The Issue
Hello! On behalf of all of the Health Careers Students, please read and consider this message below:
The Health Careers Program at our school in Coventry, RI has been a cornerstone of student success for years! This is largely due to the dedication and expertise of our beloved teachers. Specifically, this year, Carly McNulty has been working alongside program coordinator, Gail Farrell, and has led her students to success! The purpose of this, is to petition Ms. McNulty’s recent layoff, as it threatens the quality and continuity of this vital program.
Ms.McNulty is a dedicated, hardworking, energetic, and enthusiastic teacher, who plans to share her knowledge with students for decades in the Health Careers Program. To begin, Ms. McNulty was a CHS graduate in 2017 who was an excellent representation of the CHS culture! Ms. McNulty had many achievements in her high school years including finishing 13th in her graduating class, receiving an Oaker Award, and several senior award scholarships. Ms. McNulty was a Health Careers student herself, an AP student, National Honor Society Vice President, a member of the World Language Honor Society, captain of both of her sports teams, and a unified gym class intern. After her high school years, Ms. McNulty went straight to URI where she earned her BSN in Nursing with a minor in education. Currently Ms. McNulty is working full time, while going to school to earn her Masters in Nursing Education through SNHU. At URI, Ms. McNulty was heavily involved and had many academic achievements including, Dean’s List every semester, finishing Magna Cum Laude, and even working two jobs while going to school. To add, Ms. McNulty has years of CNA, PCT, and Nursing experience to bring to her students, and in addition to teaching, she is also still currently working in her respective field as a nurse!
Furthermore, Ms.McNulty’s passion for education in healthcare is paramount and she is, without a doubt, the instructor to carry on the Health Careers Program at CHS. She loves working here and sharing what she has learned with her students. This year, Ms.McNulty has led all of her students in her senior class to success, as they all successfully passed the National Patient Care Technician exam. Ms. McNulty has also prepared CNA students to take their state board CNA exams this summer. This year, Ms. McNulty has also guided her students to become certified in AHA CPR/BLS, OSHA, Certified Nurse Assisting, and Medical Terminology. Ms. McNulty has also brought in several guest speakers to expand the knowledge in the classroom and is networking with clinical settings to get her students out into the community for skill based learning!
Overall, students have consistently excelled under her guidance as well as Mrs. Farrell’s, with many going on to pursue successful careers in healthcare. We urge the school administration to reconsider this decision for the benefit of current and future students. Please consider signing this petition to help us keep our invaluable teacher in her position!
