RE: Immediate Action Needed to Prevent the Permanent Closure of 3411 Lounge (3411 MacArthur Blvd)

For ten years, 3411 Lounge has been more than a local business — it has been a true community anchor in the Laurel District. As Oakland continues to struggle with safety, displacement, and the erosion of trusted neighborhood spaces, 3411 Lounge has consistently done what so many establishments cannot:

Provided a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and multigenerational third space
Offered a consistent gathering place for longtime residents, newcomers, and diverse communities
Strengthened neighborhood safety through presence, connection, and community care
Contributed to the cultural and economic vibrancy of Laurel District
Now, the sudden forced closure and eviction of 3411 Lounge threatens to dismantle a space that residents of Oakland deeply rely on.

This is not “just another business.”
This is community infrastructure.
This is what keeps neighborhoods stable.

Oaklanders are calling on Mayor Barbara Lee, the Oakland City Council, and the responsible city departments to:

1. Review the circumstances surrounding the eviction and closure of 3411 Lounge.
2. Intervene where possible to pause or reverse the action.
3. Facilitate mediation and support between all parties involved.
4. Prioritize the preservation of cultural, economic, and community-support institutions in Oakland neighborhoods.
We believe Oakland’s third spaces — especially those that have served the community for a decade — deserve protection, not displacement.

We urge city leadership to act swiftly to save 3411 Lounge and prevent another cultural cornerstone from being erased.

Oakland cannot afford to lose more of the spaces that hold our neighborhoods together.
