SAUSD- Keep Our Schools TK–5 Elementary and 6–8 Junior High
The Issue
We, the undersigned parents, guardians, and community members, respectfully oppose the proposed change to a TK–4 elementary and 5–8 middle school structure.
Fifth grade is a critical stage in a child’s development. Students at this age are still growing emotionally, socially, and academically. Placing them in a middle school environment with significantly older students creates a maturity gap that may negatively impact their sense of safety, confidence, and overall well-being.
Elementary schools provide a supportive and structured environment where students can build confidence and leadership skills as the oldest group on campus. This experience plays an important role in preparing them for the transition to junior high.
We believe maintaining the traditional TK–5 elementary and 6–8 junior high model better supports student development and aligns with the needs of our children.
We respectfully urge the school district to reconsider this proposal and to meaningfully include parent and community input before making a final decision.
