Hi, I hope your year is off to a great start. My name is Laura Gonzalez, I'm a relatively new resident of Marin City, I moved here in May of 2018 with my husband and our three young sons. My oldest son will be 5 in June and starting kindergarten in our new school this fall and I have twin boys who will be 3 on January 11th. We are a Mexican immigrant family, our boys are first-generation American born.  As a Mexican-American family what I want the most for my children is for them to go to a diverse school with a strong academic program and a strong feeling of community and inclusion.

In Mexico I studied psychology, specialized in child and adolescents, I then went on to study a master's program in cognitive behavioral therapy, and currently, I'm in a Marriage and Family Therapy program at USF so that I can become a licensed therapist in CA. I understand how important elementary and middle school are for a child's development. As an immigrant, I also understand how important equity, emotional support, and education are for a child's future.

During these past 3 years, I have been very happy being part of both Marin City and Sausalito community. My oldest son spent his first two years of nursery school in the beautiful and loving Sausalito Nursery School. What I fell in love with most about SNS is the caring and welcoming community. One of my biggest aspirations is to be able to support and reach out to parents so that ALL families are invited and can feel safe, respected, seen, heard, and valued. 

I did not run for the school board during the elections because with three children, during a pandemic and without family here, the thought of a campaign was overwhelming and felt impossible. Now that one of the school board trustees has left his seat, I hope to have the opportunity to support the unification and bring my unique perspective both as a psychologist and as a LatniX mother in Marin City.

Hola, espero se encuentren muy bien y que hayan empezado un buen año. Mi nombre es Laura Gonzalez. Soy relativamente nueva en nuestra comunidad, llegué a Marin City en Mayo de 2018 con mi esposo y tres hijos. Mi hijo mayor cumple 5 años en Junio y en Agosto entrará al Kinder en la escuela nueva de nuestro distrito. También tengo gemelos que cumplen 3 años en un par de semanas. Somos una familia de immigrantes de México, mis hijos son los primeros de nuestra familia de nacer aquí en Estados Unidos. Como una familia de mexico-americanos, lo que más quiero para mis hijos es que puedan estar en una escuela diversa con niños de diferentes culturas, que se sientan aceptados y aprendan a aceptar a todas las personas diferentes a nosotros, que tengan la oportunidad de tener una buena educación y una fuerte unión con su comunidad. 

En México, estudié psicología, me especailicé en terapia de niños y adolescentes y estudié una maestría en terapia cognitivo-conductual para adultos. Actualmente estoy estudiando una maestría en terapia matrimonial y de familia en USF para obtener mi licencia y poder ejercer aquí en CA. 

Estos ultimos tres años he disfrutado mucho ser parte tanto de la comunidad de Marin City como la de Sausalito. Mi hijo mayor paso dos años en la escuela maternal de Sausalito Nursery School. Uno de mis objetivos más grandes es poder ser un vínculo entre las familias de ambas comunidades para poder apoyar e involucrar a las familias y crear un ambiente en donde TODAS las familias se puedan sentir seguras, respetadas, vistas, escuchadas y valoradas. 

Durante las elecciones, no hice campaña para estar en la mesa directiva del distrito escolar ya que con tres hijos, la pandemia y sin familia aquí, pensar en hacer una campaña me pareció algo demasiado complicado, casi imposible. Sin embargo, ahora que uno de los representates renunció, quiero tomar esta oportunidad para postularme y poder aportar mi perspectiva como psicóloga y ser una voz para mi familia y las demas familias latinas en nuestro distrito. 

Si me quieres apoyar, por favor firma esta petición y envíasela a las personas que puedas, solo tengo hasta Enero 15 y entre más firmas pueda recolectar, mejor oportunidad tendré de representarnos.
