A petition to pass the 177 recommendations given to the Madison Police.

A petition to pass the 177 recommendations given to the Madison Police.

The Issue

In response to the officer-involved shooting of Tony Robinson the Madison police department policy and procedure review Ad Hoc committee conducted an independent investigation beginning in march of 2015. They released their final report in October 2019. That means they studied the Madison police department for 4 years. The committee's final report included a list of 177 recommended changes to the Madison police Department. The changes are focused on improving the MPD's relationship with the Madison community, and decreasing the number of police involved shootings. The Madison committee recommended an increase in civilian oversight by establishing an independent police monitor’s office staffed by an independent monitor and reporting to a civilian police review body. This would be an independent monitor of the Madison area police to ensure accountability. This is just one of the 177 recommendations made to the Madison police. These are recommendations that are up for debate right now. If you want to see change in this state, contact the mayor of Madison and the Madison aldermen and tell them that these are recommendations that you think should be implemented. As a citizen of Wisconsin, and or the United States, you have a right to petition for change in any part of this country. Regardless of whether or not you live in that part of this country.
