My name is Kayla Carero, I am a victim in a crime that Dean Atwell committed. In September in front of my 3 year old nephew, Dean Atwell broke into my home in an attempt to rob items and money from my home.

I was informed he has an offer of A plea bargain trespassing charge, which is 1 year in county jail and I would like answers as to why. He committed 3 felonies and 3 misdemeanors in the case just against me let alone he had pending felony charges in court regarding possession. Since I was informed of this offer I cannot sleep, I cannot eat and I am sick to my stomach that such a monster could be released so soon. I was in relationship with him for a year and in that year he did horrible things to me physically mentally and financial. Besides the every day beatings, he used explicit pictures of me without my permission or knowledge at the time, to send to men in exchange for money to support his drug habit. He had broken everything I owned in his fit of rages, as well as setting my clothing on fire, and the camper we used to live in in lake luzerene during an argument. He has crashed vehicles trying to kill us, he had beaten my dog, and so much more and the cops were never able to help, the bruises weren't enough, or I didn't have enough proof.

When he was orginally arrested I was just getting out of this abusive relationship and did not express the severity of what he has done to me because I was reassured he would be going to prison for a long time. Now with help from Wellsprings domestic violence in saratoga and a consular I am starting grasp the trauma he has caused me and he needs to be held accountable for his actions. My community is outraged that after everything he could be out in a year. My nephew still doesn't sleep alone in fear Dean may break into his home again.

From the woman through domestic violence, to my coworkers/ bosses, to people in my neighborhood we have begun a petition that justice be served. We want answers as to why someone as inhumane as Dean Atwell is could be lose on the streets so soon.  I would like to get 5000 signatures to show the district attorneys office in Saratoga springs New York that our community is outraged!
