Nextdoor.com "leads" threaten public health during Covid pandemic; new leads are needed.

The Issue

With more Americans than ever relying on Nextdoor.com, the social media site has a responsibility to ensure that the "leads" (those people who vote to recommend what comments are removed) are not pushing a personal agenda that endangers public safety.  Nextdoor.com members around the country complain online that it's impossible to get rid of a bad lead. One such lead, a self-appointed expert on Covid 19,  claims the virus is "over hyped" and she posts false medical facts such as "a large portion [of the public] will not catch it when exposed."

She rails against posts that warn about the dangers of Covid 19, and then many of those posts disappear, despite not violating guidelines. (The leads vote prior to a removal.) She has disabled commenting when the comments don't support her anti-mask agenda, but not without adding her own final comment.  When a pro-mask vs. anti-mask poll was posted on nextdoor.com, the number of people favoring a mask mandate at the height of the pandemic outnumbered those against a mandate 3 to 1. Yet comments were disabled on the poll shortly after it was posted.  Less than a day later, the post was deleted altogether with its 355 votes that heavily favored a mask mandate at that time.

She has been a nextdoor.com lead for at least 4 years. There are other leads who abuse their power.  We need one-year term limits for all leads, and the selection process should be transparent.   Give those who want to be leads a chance to state why they want the position, and let members vote.

If a member asks why a post was taken down, the lead should respond. She does not when asked. Leads should not silently vote to censor.

Nextdoor.com, make your platform more enjoyable, effective and fair for all members. Create a mechanism for praising good leads and reporting and ousting bad leads.  Regularly invite new people to take the position - people who will communicate with members, won't censor indiscriminately, won't abuse their power, and won't endanger public health!

Thank you!
