The City of Santa Cruz is working on Objective Standards for what buildings are to look at in Santa Cruz. The Objective Standards per the new Calif law are the only way a city can have input when reviewing applications for the buildings to be built.
The City of Santa Cruz is asking for resident's input via this survey. There are lines on the survey to write in what you would like to see built in Santa Cruz. There are currently proposed projects which are 6 stories including rooftop areas that have very modern designs which do not add character to the town. By filling in the survey even anonymously YOU CAN HELP.
Writing into the fill-in areas of the survey sentences such as these could help:
1. The tallest part of the building cannot take up a full floor. If an objective standard like this were part of the City of Santa Cruz Plan it could help to give more style to buildings and keep the huge block-looking buildings being built. This could perhaps help with keeping the 831 Water St. project from being built.
Also, an Objective Standard like this could help the buildings have design character and possibly keep block-looking buildings from being built.·
2. At least two materials shall be used on any building frontage, in addition to glazing and railings. Any one material must comprise at least 20% of the building frontage, excluding windows and railings. A change in material must be offset by a minimum of six inches in depth.
